The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the foundational truth of Christianity on which we stand. The World has not seen resurrection before Jesus rose from the dead. His resurrection brought hope to the dying world.
The Resurrection of Jesus assures us an inheritance in heaven that is incomparable to everything we see on earth.
The Bible says, “According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you.” (1 Peter 1:3-4)
This inheritance we would receive in heaven has 3 glorious characteristics:
1. Imperishable:
Unlike the inheritance we possess on earth, this inheritance the Bible promises us, can never be destroyed. That’s why even Jesus asks us to store our riches in heaven and not on earth.
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.” (Matthew 6:19-20)
Many a time, we are very much worried about safeguarding our early belongings because of its corruptible nature. If we set our eyes on the incorruptible inheritance from heaven, we needn’t worry as it is not made with human hands but with God’s.
“For we know that if the tent that is our earthly home is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.” (2 Corinthians 5:1)
“For here we have no lasting city, but we seek the city that is to come.” (Hebrews 13:14)
2. Undefiled:
The heavenly inheritance is only for those who are found in the lamb’s book of life. They are the ones who are spotless and blameless in the sight of God having been washed by the blood of Jesus.
“But nothing unclean will ever enter it, nor anyone who does what is detestable or false, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s book of life.” (Revelation 21:27)
Inheritance in God’s kingdom is not for those who do the works of the flesh but are born of the spirit. There is no place for them who do things that displease God.
“Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.” (Galatians 5:19-25)
3. Unfading:
Our heavenly inheritance never becomes dim or dull as Jesus Himself is the lamp of it. Unlike the earth, there is no need for the sun or the moon in heaven, as the glory of God gives light to it.
“And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb.” (Revelation 21:23)
Unlike the worldly inheritance that loses its essence over time, our heavenly inheritance forever holds its own reflecting the glory of its Creator who has neither beginning nor end.
“And night will be no more. They will need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign forever and ever.” (Revelation 22:5)
