What if you had worked hard all year on your own and still couldn’t achieve the thing you wanted? You might feel exhausted or even on the verge of giving it up completely. Every one of us wants to do achieve something great every year either in our personal or professional lives. But we might not always be successful in doing it. It isn’t always possible to be successful in everything we do and so we fail at times. But life doesn’t end there and there is more to life.
There was a fisherman named Simon in the Bible. One day He toiled all night in lake fishing but caught nothing. He came back to the shore and was washing the nets when Jesus came there. He got into Simon’s boat and started preaching to the people there. “Then He got into one of the boats, which was Simon’s, and asked him to put out a little from the land. And He sat down and taught the multitudes from the boat.” (Luke 5:3)
Once He finished preaching, He asked Simon to go out into lake again for fishing. Simon replied Him saying that we have worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. Yet He agreed to try again trusting His words. “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net.” (Luke 5:5)
And when they tried again, surprisingly they caught a large number of fish that their nets were broken and their ship was about to sink. They even had to take the help of other fishermen to bring the fishes to the shore. “And when they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their net was breaking. So they signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them.” (Luke 5:6,7)
We are all like Simon trying to do things on our own. When we don’t achieve the things we want, we get frustrated and give up. If Simon had not trusted in the words of Jesus and cast His net, He would have not got a great number of fishes. Likewise, we need to trust in the ability of Jesus and not on our own to be successful in the things we do.
Trusting Jesus isn’t just about being successful in our lives. It is all about the everlasting life we receive in faith through Him. Yes, there is an everlasting life after death. God didn’t create us to be just successful in this life we live on earth. He wants us all to be successful in inheriting the everlasting life in heaven which is why He sent His only begotten Son Jesus to earth. Jesus died on the cross on our behalf so that all who trust in Him would receive forgiveness for their sins in His name.
Have you been working hard throughout the year? Trust in God and you will see changes in your life. Success or Failure, if you have God on your side you will not be worn out. You will receive strength from God and you will start working towards success. Do you want to receive Jesus in your life this New Year?
